Venom EV, an electric vehicle manufacturer from Wisconsin, will set up South Carolina operations in a 200,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility in Dorchester County.
The company makes high-end golf cart-style vehicles for gold and other uses.
Venom will invest $645,000 into a Summerville facility and create 60 news jobs to support manufacturing, warehousing, distribution and product development operations, according to a news release.
“We’re excited to call Summerville home,” James Haney, CEO at Venom EV, said in the release. “This region offers an exceptional business climate, a skilled workforce, and a strong sense of community. We look forward to becoming an active part of the local economy while continuing to build innovative products that our dealers and customers love.”
Venom EV is currently hiring employees to work in manufacturing, assembly, engineering, logistics, quality control and customer support. The release said the company is working closely with SC Works and local workforce partners to find and train employees.
“We’re seeing more companies take a serious look at Dorchester County, and Venom’s decision to locate here highlights that we’re doing something right,” David Chinnis, Dorchester County Council chairman, said in the news release. “What stands out is their focus on building a team locally. These are real opportunities for our residents to join something new and grow with a company that’s just getting started here.”
Venom EV is moving into an existing building off U.S. Highway 78 and plans an opening ceremony in late summer or early fall this year.
