South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance sets 2025 legislative agenda

The South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance announced its 2025 vision for manufacturing in the state aimed to drive innovation, boost job growth and make the state more competitive for economic development.
Presenting the SCMA agenda at the South Carolina Manufacturing Day was president and CEO Sara Hazzard along with South Carolina House LCI chairman Bill Herbkersman, South Carolina Senate president Thomas Alexander and majority leader Shane Massey, according to a news release.
“Manufacturing is the engine powering South Carolina’s economy,” Hazzard said in the release. “From making record-setting investments to kick-starting careers, manufacturers create opportunities across South Carolina. Our legislative agenda is a commitment to work with policymakers, industry leaders, employees, and stakeholders to ensure the foundation for economic opportunity and prosperity that manufacturers are laying is one we can build on for decades to come.”

As a part of the celebration, industry leaders focused on legislative proposals that reflect input from manufacturing executives serving on its board of directors and prioritize six core areas crucial to sustaining a vibrant industrial economy, the release stated:
- Legal reform – ensuring a fair and balanced regulatory framework;
- Energy policy – advocating for affordable, reliable energy solutions;
- Tax and economic development – promoting a competitive tax structure that fosters business investment;
- Workforce development and education – building a pipeline of talent to meet the industry’s evolving needs;
- Streamlined regulatory environment – supporting sustainability and regulatory efficiency; a
- Infrastructure – Improving critical systems to support manufacturing growth.
Manufacturing industry leaders suggest legislative proposals each year to the executives on the SCMA Board of Directors to choose six core areas to improve, the release said.
