Public voting narrows South Carolina’s Coolest Thing contest to a Final 4

The annual South Carolina Manufacturing Madness contest is putting the spotlight on a diverse selection of Palmetto-made products this year.
About 45,000 votes chose an airplane, a bed, a seltzer brand and fiver optic cable as the final four in the “Coolest Thing Made in South Carolina.”
The manufacturers are:
- AFL, Spartanburg — Fiber Optic Cable
- The Boeing Co., North Charleston — 787 Dreamliner
- Gallo, Chester — High Noon Sun Sips
- Sleep Number, Richland County — ClimateCool Smartbed
Voting for the final round takes place March 17-20, and the winner will be revealed by Gov. Henry McMaster in a ceremony at 10 a.m. March 26 at the South Carolina Statehouse. The public is encouraged to vote at scmanufacturingmadness.com.

Launched in 2022 by the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance, Manufacturing Madness is intended to highlight the innovation, impact and craftsmanship behind the products made in South Carolina, according to a news release. Previous winners include:
- 2024: Talon 1000R-4 Fox Live Valve (Honda, Timmonsville)
- 2023: F-16 Fighting Falcon (Lockheed Martin, Greenville)
- 2022: Steel (Nucor Steel Berkeley, Huger)
